Fairy tales and mythology have always intrigued me. As a kid, my favourite book was Grimm’s Fairy Tales (the more gruesome, the better). So, today’s NaPoWriMo theme of telling a classic story from an unexpected point of view stumped me. How could I choose one story out of the countless swimming in my subconscious?

I settled on a myth featuring Artemis, told from the POV of a hound in the form of a triolet.

NaPoWriMo Day 21 – Myth

The scent of stag is in the brush,
Empyrean skin is not for mortal eyes.
Beneath heavy paws, arid leaves crush,
The scent of stag is in the brush.
The beat of hooves and song of thrush,
Under claws and fangs, he meets his demise.
The scent of stag is in the brush,
Empyrean skin is not for mortal eyes.
