We’re on the home stretch; only 5 days left in the 30 days of poetry challenge.

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt was to use a line from a famous poem to inspire a new work. I have used the first line of Frost’s poem, ‘The Road Not Taken’, and continued to use 9 syllables per line.

NaPoWriMo Day 25 – The First Line

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
One is the savior of womanhood.
The other is veiled in light but dark,
Black blood seeps and boils beneath the bark.

Men stand tall in their collars of white,
Eye wrinkled in thought but lacking sight.
Where virtue stands they see a devil,
In victims’ fear they blithely revel.

Tears nor wailing will have an effect,
When fire burns or noose rings slender neck.
Screeching of cat and bird fill the air,
As women are strapped to dunking chair.

“I will free your soul,” the judge proclaims,
As villagers cheer, their fears assuaged.
Yet of all this there will come no good.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.
